Martin was thrilled by the The Rocky Mountains in BC. He said if he'd known about them when he first came to Canada he'd have settled in the west. He made ten trips to the Canadian Rockies and loved every one. He painted on the spot or sketched so he could paint it in the winter back home in Toronto. The Rockies were formed about 70 million years ago; erosion of water pouring relentlessly down glaciers sculpted the mountain ranges into steep valleys leaving lofty peaks that soar high above river beds, lowlands and passes. Definitely a sight to behold and a great place to holiday for skiing or just the view.
