This island near Stanley Park in Vancouver, BC was once the tree-burial grounds for the Squamish native people. Chief Capilano said it had been the scene of a bloody battle between rival tribes and 200 died there. From 1944 to 2007 it was used as a Canadian naval base. Now, not in use, the First Nations people are claiming it as theirs.
